Wie wat vertrouwd is met Instagram zal wellicht weten dat  #vanlife en #homeiswhereyouparkit tot de meest populaire hashtags behoort. Toch is de term vanlife meer dan enkel maar rondreizen in een busje. Het staat representatief voor een verschuiving in de levenswijze die erg in trek is onze generatie. In plaats van het vooropgestelde leven van huisje, tuintje en het betalen van enorm veel belastingen, kiezen steeds meer jongeren voor een nomadische en minimalistische levensstijl waarbij we liever zelf de balans tussen werk en ontspanning kiezen. Het is een zoektocht naar een echt gelukkig leven.

Anyone who has spend some time on Instagram will probably know that #vanlife and #homeiswhereyouparkit are some of the most popular hashtags. Still, the term ‘Van Life’ represents more than just vehicle dwelling. It embodies a shift in the way people are thinking, a movement that is sweeping across the mindset of our generation. Instead of a life consisting of paying mortgage and a huge amount of taxes, more and more individuals are choosing a nomadic and embrace minimalism to make their own balance of work and a pursuing dreams. It is a journey to find a true happy life. 

Vanlife days

Ook wij hebben gekozen voor een leven waarbij we liever zelf de keuzes maken, dan de vooropgestelde levenswijze van de maatschappij. Waarom genoegen nemen met zes dagen op zeven werken om een huis af te betalen dat we de hele dag leeg achterlaten en een auto te kunnen kopen die ons enkel en alleen maar naar ons werk brengt?

Hoewel het nog even wachten is vooraleer we definitief met het vanlife beginnen, hebben we de laatste weken opnieuw even geproefd van de levensstijl.

Us too have chosen for a life in which we are the ones making the decisions, instead of living the choices made by society. Why settle for a conditioned life to work all week, to pay for the house that we leave vacant all day and the car that waits for us outside of our workplace? 

While we still have to wait for a while till we start our vanlife journey, we have tasted the lifestyle once again these last few weeks. 

Het leukste moment was wellicht de outdoor cinema die we bijwoonden in Koksijde, na de overwinning van de Belgen tegen Brazilië in de kwartfinale van het Wereldkampioenschap in Rusland. Met ons Volkswagen busje parkeerden we op het Kerkplein waar we vanuit ons bed in de koffer konden genieten van de film ‘The Shape of Water’.

The most fun moment probably was when we attended the outdoor cinema in Koksijde, after having witnessed the Belgian victory over Brazil in the quarter finals of the World Cup. We parked our Volkswagen bus on the parking lot, where we could enjoy the movie ‘The Shape of Water’ from our bed located in the back of our van. 

Voeg daar aan toe dat we popcorn, drank en ijsjes konden bestellen met behulp van onze smartphone en we hebben een onvergetelijke ervaring!

Eind augustus trekken we er met het busje nog eens voor twee weken op uit naar het buitenland. Een bestemming hebben we nog niet in gedachten. We spelen zelfs met het idee om onvoorbereid om vakantie te vertrekken en op de dag van vertrek een bestemming uit te loten. Een ideetje dat we hebben gepikt van De Colombus met Wim Lybaert op Een.

Add in the option to order popcorn, drinks and icecream with the aid of our smartphone and we were thrilled by the experience! 

At the end of August we are planning to have our next two weeks trip with our Volkswagen. At the moment we still have no destination set. We are thinking about it to go on an unprepared holiday and pick our destination randomly on the day of departure. 

Wellicht kiezen we niet voor landen als bestemming, maar houden we het eerder bij regio’s of misschien zelfs specifieke plaatsen. Welke bestemming moet er volgens jullie zeker in de trommel? 

We probably won’t choose for countries as a destinations, as most of them are too big  to really discover them entirely. Instead we will choose for regions or maybe specific destinations (a beautiful village, lake, ..) What destination should we certainly not miss to enter in our draw?
