In de vorige blogpost had ik het over de schattenjacht die Frankrijk al 27 jaar bezighoudt. Aan de hand van 11 raadsels wordt de exacte locatie gevonden waar de Gouden Uil ligt. Maar dat is gemakkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. De vorige vier raadsels vind je in de vorige blogpost. Maar wie dat al zou opgelost hebben, kan zijn hersenen pijnigen met deze.

Clue 5 – Quand Al-Mar s’allie à la fibule de Préneste, les ténèbres resplendissent

Ook deze aanwijzing heeft een oplossing. Aan de hand van de steden die we ontdekten in Clue 4, kunnen we de letters hier vervangen door cijfers (B=1, C=2, …). De getallen die we ontdekken zijn de atoommassa´s van chemische elementen. Deze kunnen we op hun beurt vervangen door het symbool van de elementen.

Dit leidt tot de zin Cl · E (s) · F · Se · Ca C · He · S · U · Ru · N Na · V · I · Re · N · O Ir · P · Er · C · He.

This enigma also has a solution. Based on the cities we discovered in Clue 4, we can replace the letters here with numbers (B = 1, C = 2, …). The numbers we discover are the atomic masses of chemical elements. We can in turn replace this with the symbol of the elements.

This leads to the sentence: The key is on the black perched ship.

Clue 6 – UT QUEANT LAXIS

A 2424-42-424-44-224-24-42-24, emprunte l’orthogonale.
Pour trouver la Spirale à quatre centres,
560.606 mesures, c’est loin.
Mais par le Méga, c’est un million de fois moins.

De cijferreeks is ondertussen ontcijferd tot de stad Carignan. Opvallend is dat er een rechte lijn kan worden getrokken door Bourges, Roncevaux en Carignan. De rest van het raadsel lijkt te willen dat er een loodrechte lijn wordt getrokken door Carignan op de eerste lijn. Van hieruit moeten 560 606 eenheden (1 eenheid is 33 cm, pied de roi) ofwel 185 kilometer verder reizen. Dit leidt tot Dabo of een buitenwijk van Lille. Deze eerste lijkt het meest waarschijnlijk.

De resterende vraag is: Wat is de spiraal met vier centers?

But by the Mega, it’s a million times less.

The series of numbers has been deciphered to the city of Carignan. It is striking that a straight line can be drawn through Bourges, Roncevaux and Carignan. The rest of the riddle seems to want a perpendicular line drawn by Carignan on the first line. From here, we need to travel 560 606 units (1 unit is 33 cm, pied de roi) or 185 kilometers further. This leads to Dabo or a suburb of Lille. The first seems most likely.

The remaining question is: what is the Spirale à quatre centres

Dit raadsel heeft opnieuw verschillende stappen. De cijfers in het eerste deel staan voor het aantal dagen dat een planeet rond de zon draait. Vervolgens vervangen we deze door de eerste letter van de planeet. Dit leidt tot de volgende zin: THIS IS WHERE THE EAGLE PRINTED THE MARK OF HIS CLAWS IN THE SABLE, ONE HUNDRED DAYS BEFORE BREAKING HIS BEAK AND LEAVING HIS FEATHERS. Een verwijzing naar Napoleon en de kuststad Golfe Juan, waar hij aankwam na zijn verbanning op Elba.

De rest van het raadsel blijft grotendeels een mysterie. Vanuit Golfe Juan telt hij 650 kilometer naar de zenit (hoogste punt hemel) en in een fractie van tijd eindigt zijn pijl op de volgende locatie. Heel wat schattenjagers claimen dat de pijl 559 kilometer reist ( (86164/46241860) * 300000 = 559.000006). In de veronderstelling dat dit aan de snelheid van het licht gebeurt.

This riddle again has several steps. The numbers in the first part represent the number of days a planet orbits the sun. Then we replace it with the first letter of the planet. This leads to the following sentence: THIS IS WHERE THE EAGLE PRINTED THE MARK OF HIS CLAWS IN THE SABLE, ONE HUNDRED DAYS BEFORE BREAKING HIS BEAK AND LEAVING HIS FEATHERS. A reference to Napoleon and the coastal city of Golfe Juan, where he arrived after his exile on Elba.

The rest of the riddle remains largely a mystery. From Golfe Juan it counts 650 kilometers to the zenith (highest point of heaven) and in a fraction of its time its arrow ends at the next location. Many treasure hunters claim that the arrow travels 559 kilometers ((86164/46241860) * 300000 = 559.000006). Assuming this happens at the speed of light.

Clue 8 -AD AUGUSTA PER ANGUSTA

Quand, à Carusburc, tu auras Albion dans le dos,
Cherche l’Ouverture qui révèle la Lumière Céleste.
Ne t’attarde pas, ne demande pas ton reste,
Mais apprête-toi à marcher sur les eaux.

Par deux fois, Neptune viendra à ton secours
Et te mènera loin du Septentrion glacé.
Poursuis ta route et n’interromps pas ton parcours
Avant de voir, par l’Ouverture, la Nef encalminée.

Sans dévier d’un pouce, tire un trait,
Et tu ne regretteras pas ce que tu as fait.

Het enige wat we zeker weten is dat Carusburc verwijst naar Cherbourg en Albion naar Engeland. Ook l´Ouverture is wellicht Bourges die we in de eerste aanwijzing hebben gevonden.

When at Carusburc, you will have Albion in the back,
Seek the opening that reveals the Heavenly Light.
Don’t linger, don’t ask for your rest,
But prepare yourself to walk on water.
Twice, Neptune will help you
And carry you away from the icy north.
Pursue your road and do not interrupt your journey
Before seeing, through the Opening, the becalmed Nave.
Without deviating an inch, draw a line,

All we know for sure is that Carusburc refers to Cherbourg and Albion to England. L´Ouverture may also be Bourges, which we found in the first clue.

After this, there are two more clues left, which I suppose they are used to determine the exact location. But before that it is important to solve the first eight riddles. Leave your ideas and theories in the comments!
